On the Morning of Dec. 9th, 2005, activists and community members gathered at the front gate to the Nanning Cr. Timber Harvest area, protesting the cutting of this once protected and largest remaining stand of privately owned Old Growth Redwoods.
A one-log-truck was stopped by the group, and two women sat down in front of it to block it. At that time, another activist was targeted, arrested, and pepper-sprayed by the Humboldt Co. Sherriffs Dept. The victim of the attack suffers asthma and was severly affected by the spray. He left the scene in an Ambulance that activists called, after the Sherriffs refused to do, after several requsts from the victim and the crowd.
While arresting the individual, the Sherriffs became distracted, and the two women climbed on top of the logging truck! Pain compliance holds (physical holds designed to invoke compliance) and carelessness were the main tactics used in removing the two women from the logging truck. All those arrested were booked into the Humbodt Co. Jail until arraignment. The Sherriffs of course went to a meeting with high level Pacific Lumber officials to have lunch and get paid off.
More action to come in the Nanning Cr. area, and you are needed! Every day more trees are cut down. This forest is irreplaceable. Call now to get involved, and check our site to learn more.

We Save Trees activists have risen up again! A treesit has been set up in a massive tree in the Bonanza THP near Scotia! In the middle of the night, friendly climbers scaled the Gigantic tree, and set ropes and living quarters, in order to occupy the tree so it wont be cut. This area is adjacent to an older treesit village in a virgin redwood grove, that was clearcut in late 2002. The area is inhabitted by endangered seabirds called Marbled Murrelets. The logging plan, called “Bonanza”,is 249 acres. 192 acres are occupied stands for the murrelet. The Bonanza harvest plan contains the largest unprotected, contiguous, occupied marbled murrelet stand left on Maxxam/PL's land. We Save Trees desperately needs your help to protect this ancient tree and the surrounding oldgrowth forest! Call us if you can Help! Phone Number is in the movie! And Please, Tell your friends, and/or send out an email to folks you know, with the link to the movie. Thank You! May the Forest Be With You!
